Part of the thrill of travelling around the world exploring ancient structures is the prospect of uncovering history’s hidden secrets. There is always the sense that among such ruins, one might stumble upon new evidence of a mysterious lost civilization that time, and modern society, had forgotten.
It was this feeling I wanted to evoke in VINE: Gateway to Subrealm, a graphic novel I wrote where I had the joy and privilege of working with Turkish illustrator Coskun Kuzgun, whose style is beautifully photographic yet painterly, often rendering details far more meticulously than I could ever have imagined or described in a script. Coskun’s artwork transports the reader to a faraway land containing evocative remnants of a culture that may well have inspired myths and legends that have stood the test of time all over our planet.
Do you enjoy exploring ancient structures? Which ones have you been to?
