Our subconscious is infinitely more imaginative and creative than our conscious mind. It will come up with ideas our internal editor may find bizarre or ridiculous, but often there is a method to its apparent madness.
When I first thought of introducing giant flying insectoids to the world of VINE: Gateway to Subrealm, a graphic novel I wrote with art by Coskun Kuzgun, I had doubts about their suitability. Time has convinced me otherwise. Along with adding creepiness to the story, they were also a logical thematic fit.
