too many samurai flicks?
you get hacky with a katana against a shortsword and you get chips of katana flaking off and probably a broken katana even if the curved blade would be a little more survivable than the ninjato, a wakisaki would lose too much mass to be of much use.
All weapons share a common weakness and imperfection, cy414 : the user. What you say about the katana against the shortsword is true if you try to confront the shortsword with brute force, but that’s defetinivly not how you want to use a katana. Instead, you have to redirect enemy’s attacks and for that the katana is quite good actually compared to several occidental swords like She-Ra’s broadsword (wink to Hue BR)
I honestly can’t see her wielding a scimitar. For one thing, wouldn’t the balance be different from anything she’s used to? I’d more likely see her with a saber.
